Mass cleanup during Bluewave Days in Barcelona removes 127 kg of waste through citizen action
Coinciding with World Oceans Day, the Bluewave Alliance highlights the results of the coastal and underwater cleanup held in the Catalan capital. More than a hundred volunteers demonstrated the power of social mobilization to restore the health of the Mediterranean coastline.

Commitment to marine regeneration was translated into direct action on the ground. As part of Bluewave Days, more than a hundred people gathered in Barcelona to carry out an intense cleanup day covering both the beach sand and the local seabed, successfully removing a total of 127 kg of waste.
Beyond highlighting the persistent issue of plastic pollution and other debris along the coastline, this figure stands as a symbol of the strength of civil society when organized around a clear environmental purpose. The initiative proved that protecting marine ecosystems requires a cross-cutting, participatory movement.

The impact of the blue community
The day stood out for its collaborative spirit, bringing together the efforts of various organizations and citizen networks. The action was actively supported by the LOVE ISDIN community, alongside the technical, coordination, and logistical backing of allied organizations such as Anèl·lides, Pachamama Barcelona, Honest Greens, and Dasler.
This cleanup reinforces the Bluewave Alliance's strategy of turning environmental awareness into real, measurable impact. Every piece of waste removed from the water and the sand directly helps halt the degradation of local biodiversity, serving as a reminder that the path toward a healthier and more balanced Mediterranean is built through continuous collective action.
