The Bluewave Alliance and Olivia Mandle premiere the Searching for HOPE audiovisual project to highlight marine conservation success in Turkey
This new outreach initiative journeys through the Marine Protected Areas of Gökova and Datça-Bozburun alongside the Mediterranean Conservation Society (Akdeniz Koruma Dernği), led by Zafer Kizilkaya. The first two installments of this nine-part short video series are now available, demonstrating that Mediterranean regeneration is an achievable reality.

Aiming to provide an inspiring, evidence-based look at the recovery of our blue heritage, the Bluewave Alliance and young activist Olivia Mandle launched the Searching for HOPE audiovisual project this August. Through an on-the-ground journey, this short video series highlights the management results in the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) of Gökova and Datça-Bozburun in Turkey, established as one of the most relevant ecological restoration success stories in the Mediterranean.
The project features the guidance and expertise of the Mediterranean Conservation Society (Akdeniz Koruma Dernği), led by Zafer Kizilkaya, winner of the Bluewave Conservation Award in 2025 for his pioneering work in protecting the Turkish coastline and engaging local artisanal fishing communities.

Nine installments to inspire collective action
The project consists of nine short videos designed to raise public awareness about the viability of marine regeneration when strict protection measures and effective governance are applied. The first two installments are already available on social media, published jointly on the official Instagram profiles of Olivia Mandle (@oliviamandle) and the Bluewave Alliance (@bluewavealliance).
The inaugural video explores the project's central question: whether, after decades of overexploitation, it is truly possible to bring life back to our waters. The journey seeks to give voice to scientists, marine rangers, and fishers who are proving that the sea possesses an extraordinary capacity for resilience when given the necessary space and time to recover.
With the release of these initial videos, an educational journey begins with the hope of expanding its impact and inspiring new conservation models across the Mediterranean basin.
