Enbluement 2024: opening new horizons with the ocean

Enbluement brought together ocean experts and enthusiasts such as Ona Carbonell and Anne-Marie Melster to explore its vital role, from outstanding keynotes to a sensory experience, raising awareness and calling to action for marine conservation.

On April 9th, the Enbluement 2024 event was successfully held, leaving a deep impression on the more than 150 participants and marking a clear line of work on the path towards greater awareness and action in ocean conservation. Organized by the Blue Genes community of the Institut de Ciències del Mar - CSIC, together with the Bluewave Alliance and the Ajuntament de Barcelona, this event brought together a wide range of ocean experts, professionals and enthusiasts to explore and discuss the fundamental role that the ocean plays in our lives and in the future of the planet.

The first part of the event consisted of a workshop with an excellent group of participants: Olympic swimmer Ona Carbonell; Anne-Marie Melster, member of the UN We Are Ocean program; marine biologist and co-founder of Odicean Expeditions, Pol Vives; Polina Guryashina, interdisciplinary artist; Mar Serinyà, PhD in Arts, dancer and musician; and Cristina Caparrós, PhD in Chemistry and member of a community of fisherwomen. The speakers shared their visions and experiences on the relationship between humanity and the ocean. These inspiring presentations covered a wide range of topics, from the importance of art, music or sports to the advances in science and technology that allow us to bring us closer and strengthen the connection between human beings and the ocean.

The second part of the event moved to the Charles Darwin Plaza, where the public was immersed in a unique sensory and participatory experience. Through a captivating choreography of music, images and movement created by the Blue Genes community of artists, attendees witnessed a "correaigües" to highlight the close relationship between humans and the ocean with the aim of inspiring deep reflection on our connection to seas and oceans.

Enbluement 2024 not only provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, but also served as a call to action to protect and preserve our ocean for generations to come. The lessons learned and connections made during this event will serve as a catalyst for future marine conservation initiatives and promote positive change in our relationship with the ocean.
